If you’re considering cosmetic medical treatments to smooth, sculpt or refine your facial features, you’re not alone. The popularity of these among Australian men and women continues to grow and for a good reason. They’re safe, non-invasive and cost-effective. Let’s look at the types of treatments, clear up any misconceptions, and ease your mind if you’re on the fence about whether they’re right for you.

Cosmetic Injectables, what are they?

With the rise of innovative technology and research, cosmetic medical treatments now include everything from collagen to hyaluronic acid and polymer enhancements . At Island Glow Aesthetics, we use wrinkle treatments or dermal enhancements to add volume, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and create a more youthful appearance.

Benefits of Cosmetic Medical Treatments

The benefits vary depending on the type of cosmetic treatments, and the treatment you choose will depend on the facial area and desired results. Of course, the main benefits are aesthetic; however, the affordability and convenience are also worth mentioning.

  • Increased volume and structure – whether you desire plump cheeks, fuller lips, reshaping the chin or nose or lifting the eyebrows, dermal enhancement will help achieve these results.
  • Reduced fine lines and wrinkles – if you need a smoother, more refined complexion, wrinkle-reduction treatments are perfect for softening those annoying forehead or neck lines, crow’s feet and frown lines.
  • More youthful complexion – both wrinkle-reduction treatment and dermal enhancement ultimately work to create a fresh, hydrated face with fewer lines and more volume.
  • Convenient and pain-free – the treatments are so quick you can book in on your lunch break. There’s no need for anaesthetic as the treatment is relatively pain-free and has minimal recovery time.

Cosmetic medical treatments | before and after

Looking at these before and after photos, you can see the results speak for themselves. There is a visible reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, improved tone and texture, and a subtle increase in volume.

Are cosmetic medical treatments safe for your skin?

Yes. The active ingredients in cosmetic medical solutions, whether hyaluronic acid, anti-wrinkle or collagen, are all rigorously tested for skin safety. Of course, like all medications, there is some risk involved and rare cases of side effects. It’s important to tell your nurse practitioner if you’re taking any medications, have any allergies or have any medical conditions that could affect the procedure’s safety.

Differences between wrinkle treatments and dermal enhancement?

Wrinkle treatments reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, creating a more youthful appearance. They do this by relaxing facial muscles around the forehead, lips, crow’s feet, and under the eyes, preventing them from overworking and creating new lines. While dermal enhancements also help create a more youthful complexion, they plump and add volume by hydrating areas where there was once lots of fatty tissue, such as the lips, cheeks, lower face and under the eyes.

How long do cosmetic medical treatments last?

Cosmetic medical treatments are temporary treatments to reduce the signs of ageing and require ongoing treatments to maintain that smooth, youthful appearance. Wrinkle treatments lasts for approximately three to four months, whereas dermal enhancement will help restore facial volume and structure for up to six months.

How to care for your skin after cosmetic medical treatments?

Unlike laser or other treatments that require a specific aftercare regime, cosmetic medical treatments require little downtime. However, there are a few things to keep in mind for optimal results and to minimise the risk of side effects.

After your treatment, we recommend:

  • Avoiding touching, massaging or rubbing the area for at least 4 hours
  • Not lying down for at least 4 hours and not lying on your front
  • Drinking plenty of water and avoiding alcohol for 12 hours
  • Avoiding vigorous exercise for at least 24 hours
  • Light daily activities are ok 4 hours after treatment, e.g. walking
  • Avoid wearing makeup for 24 hours after the treatment unless it’s a small amount of mineral makeup.
  • Let your clinician know if you experience any side effects and ask for advice on using over-the-counter painkillers for headaches.

Do cosmetic medical treatments cause disease?

The likelihood of cosmetic medical treatments causing disease is incredibly rare. However, there have been some cases of muscle weakness and other side effects when the injections were administered incorrectly or if the patient had underlying health conditions. At the end of the day, all medications and procedures have a small amount of risk involved; however, it’s essential to work with an experienced and trained professional to minimise this risk.

Do cosmetic medical treatments cause Lupus?

No. There is no evidence to suggest that any cosmetic medical treatments causes Lupus. If someone has Lupus or any autoimmune disease, they should speak with their healthcare team before having any cosmetic medical treatments.

How much do cosmetic medical treatments cost?

Compared to invasive cosmetic anti-ageing surgery, non-surgical cosmetic medical treatments are a cost-effective alternative. There have been changes in the way the Cosmetic Medical industry is allowed to advertise certain cosmetic medical treatments. This is regulated by Ahpra & the TGA.
> The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), oversees the accreditation and regulation of health practitioners in Australia, ensuring high standards of care, patient safety, and professional compliance across all registered health professions.
> The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is Australia’s regulatory authority for medicines, medical devices, and other therapeutic products. It ensures these products meet high safety, quality, and efficacy standards before they can be used or marketed in Australia.
Due to these regulations we are not able to state the costs of certain treatments on our website or social media platforms. We understand this can be a bit confusing! That’s why we always conduct a thorough consultation before every treatment in our clinic, where we’ll discuss pricing in detail and obtain your financial consent. Island Glow Aesthetics is committed to staying compliant with Ahpra & TGA regulations to ensure a safe and ethical environment for all of our patients.
